For all who are interested in helping the homeless in our community. We have a meeting scheduled to discuss the possibility of the St. John's Lutheran Church's C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry helping our Warren County homeless neighbors by furnishing an evening meal one night a week. We are having Kia Phillips & Nile Ramsbottom (God Cares Ministry) come to the meeting because they are the ones that know what needs to be done, where it needs to be done and who it needs to be done for! This will be a fact finding meeting - just the beginning.
Wednesday - July 6th9 AMSt. John's Lutheran Church (basement fellowship hall)950 South Hwy. 47Warrenton, MOHope to see you all there! We will have coffee, juice and fruit provided. OK, maybe a couple of donuts too.

Greetings from your St. John's Board of Outreach!!
As you all may know, Sat. July 30th is our Warrenton Community Garage Sale. This is a great time to get rid of those "extra" items in your home and make a few $$. Also, it helps "shoppers" save $$$!!
We have listed some Garage Sale Tips below for you.
Also, think about advertising that you are going to donate a percentage (your choice how much - OR ALL !) of your proceeds of the garage sale to: Concordia Seminary (see our stewardship designation for July), Agape, our C.H.U.R.C.H. Ministry to help feed the homeless (watch for upcoming opportunities for this!), our Little Lambs Pre-School, God Cares Ministry in Warren County (contact: Kia Phillips) our ST. John's Youth Group, to name just a few. This would certainly up your "customers and sales" and help so many folks and ministries in our community and our church.
Just a thought as you look around and think about how close you might be to being on the next segment of "America's Messiest House" or that show about "Hoarders"!! I know I have! LOL.
God bless your summer as you serve His people in so many ways. And...always look around you - the Holy Spirit will help you SEE opportunities!

Garage Sale Tips
BEFORE:
•
Choose a good moneymaking day, such as a Saturday near the first or 15th of the month (typicalpaydays).
•
Organize your event as a multi-family sale. Lots of garage sales in the same area will create more of abazaar-type atmosphere.
•
Signage is everything! The day before the sale, post signs near all the major streets and intersections, inevery direction, to direct people to your address. Use big, posterboard signs securely duct-taped to poles or
mounted in grass islands, with lettering at least 6 inches tall. Add arrows to point turn directions.
•
Hang flyers with tear-off info in public spaces like your church or grocery store. Tip: Before posting, consult area rules and ordinances.
•
Often local newspapers and radio stations announce info for free, as does craigslist.org. *Include the date, time, address, directions, and items of interest.
•
Clean items up. Just as used car dealers spray "new car smell" into their vehicles and shine the exteriorsto make them more appealing. On the flip side: The more haggard-looking stuff you put out, the more
quickly browsers will get turned off. (No clothes with telltale stains)
•
Display everything neatly. Take time to lay out your sale items in an inviting manner, as they mightappear in a store; books that are stacked and organized are easier to browse and will sell quicker than those
thrown in a cardboard box marked "BOOKS: 50 CENTS."
•
Get change - at least $40 in bills and coin change. (You don't want to blow a sale because you can't makechange.)
•
Make additional signs to point out particular bargain items in your garage.•
Make your sale like a shopping experience, and you'll have a much better chance of succeeding.DURING
:•
Greet people warmly and don't hover. Make people feel welcome, and once you have someone in yourgarage or yard, don't stalk them in hopes of a sale. Let them browse at their own pace and offer to answer
any questions they may have.
•
Price items clearly. If you have time, you really should label everything so that people know what theycost. (Some people will be too shy to ask otherwise.) If you don't label everything, make sure to tell people
that items are priced to sell!
•
Let people haggle. Take it from a veteran garage-sale shopper: People feel really good when they can getan item at a discounted price. If you're really firm on getting a set higher price on an item, like a family
heirloom or stereo system, perhaps you should sell it on eBay instead. Most people will perceive a garage
sale as your attempt to empty your house of stuff. Their price expectations will adjust accordingly.I have a veteran who is in need of a ride to the Columbia VA on June 29th. The VA will compensate the driver a small traveling pay. Could you please ask your friends if they are interested in assisting him? His name is Michael Minor and his telephone number is 636-466-0336. Thanks, Kia

Many of you know my nephew, Ryan Woolf. Some of you don't, but I thought you might be up for this anyway.
Ryan has enlisted in tne air force and is currently in basic training. Apparently, mail is very important to our flyboys-in-training. If you have a little spare time and could "drop him a line"(letter, card, postcard, whatever) , I am sure he would appreciate it. His address is:

Hi Pastor,
We just wanted to share our wonderful news. My mom's grandson (my nephew) and his wife (Chris and Jen) have returned safe and sound from a year's tour in Afghanistan as MP's. God is soooo good to us!!!!!!!
Lynn
If we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord. So then, whether we live or whether we die, we are the Lord's. For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living. Romans 14:8-9 While looking for stories for the Daily Devotions, my eye was caught by the title of an article located on another web page. The title said, "Man Dies All By Himself." Was the story about a forgotten movie star, or some homeless individual, or a hiker who had taken a climb beyond his level of expertise? Maybe this was the story of a hoarder who had been crushed by a falling pile of beloved possessions. It was the kind of title I had to investigate. Clicking on the link produced a large picture of a hollow-cheeked old man. Above his head, in very large letters were the words "Man Dies All By Himself." There was no article, nothing to explain the picture. Then it clicked. The man who had died all by himself was Dr. Jack Kevorkian, the man who had helped terminate the lives of over 130 people -- people who had incurable and painful diseases, who had no hope, no value, nothing to keep them linked to this world. At least that's what Kevorkian said. It's what many others believe. Recently, a past executive director of Lutheran Hour Ministries went home to his Lord. Rodger Hebermehl was his name. Many of you knew him. Those who didn't missed the acquaintance of a special man, a gentle, Christian man, who loved his Lord and had a tremendous longing for the lost souls of humanity. Over the last few years Rodger had suffered from an illness that he knew would end his life. Gradually the things he could do were diminished. Did Rodger say there was no hope, that he had no value or purpose, nothing to keep him here? If you think that, you don't know Rodger. Allow me to share that when Rodger no longer could get around by himself, when limitations were many and opportunities few, he prayed he might share the Savior's story with a few more unbelievers. He prayed he might be used by the Lord to let them know the transforming power of the Christ. He prayed the Holy Spirit might use him to bring a dozen people to faith. May I tell you one other thing about Rodger? Rodger did not die all by himself. Yes, he had his loving wife Cassandra at his side and, yes, there had been many others with him during those last days. But when Rodger left this life he did so in the company of Jesus who had redeemed him -- the Savior he had considered it an honor to serve. No, Rodger did not die alone. Because of Jesus, no Christian man or woman ever dies ... alone. THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, today I give thanks for the Rodger Hebermehls of this world. By that I mean those who have clearly seen the Savior's sacrifice and wish to do all they can to make sure the whole world knows the wonders of Your love. May I, by Your grace, live in that love until the time comes when I am taken home. This I ask in the Name of Jesus. Amen. POSTSCRIPT: I don't know if Rodger's wish to touch people with the Savior's story reached everyone he wished when he was alive. But I think both the Lord and Rodger would be pleased if you shared this devotion with others who haven't yet acknowledged Jesus as Savior. Thank you. |

There are at least eight sr. high youth in Immanuel, Joplin's youth group who lost their homes or had significant damage. (maybe more with friends who could be invited, need a much deserved break and would hear the Good News.)
We would like to provide full scholarships for these youth. Click here for more information.
