DEVOTION: Deuteronomy 8:1-10

"The whole commandment that I command you today you shall be careful to do, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land that the Lord swore to give to your fathers. And you shall remember the whole way that the Lord your God has led you these forty years in the wilderness, that he might humble you, testing you to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothing did not wear out on you and your foot did not swell these forty years. Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you. So you shall keep the commandments of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and by fearing him. For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing out in the valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron, and out of whose hills you can dig copper. 10 And you shall eat and be full, and you shall bless the Lord your God for the good land he has given you.

There's two questions we always ask at Thanksgiving:

1. For what are you thankful?

2. To whom are you thankful?

The answers:

1. Everything

2. God

By everything, I mean EVERYTHING, even the hard times that make you stronger and grow your relationship with Jesus; even the discipline he gives us to keep us humble and help us to repent; even the 40 years in the wilderness where everything seems hopeless, but where God is carrying you and growing you; even the untimely death of your loved one that makes you rely solely on the Lord for your joy and peace.

By God, I mean GOD and the people that he uses to bless you.  Give thanks to God every day for the wonderful people he puts in your life to grow you in faith and give you peace, but even give thanks for the difficult people that God uses to keep you humble and bring you to the realization that you aren't all that and a bag of chips.

And when God does bring you into the land flowing with milk and honey, and when he does lift you up out of your sin, and when he does bless your life with success, abundance, and happiness BLESS HIM BACK!!  Thank Him for all he has done by being in worship, by tithing, and by living your life in the joy of His salvation.  Live it by loving, forgiving, worshiping, and making disciples continually until he returns at which point you will be thanking him in paradise forever!

Let us pray: Lord, help me to be thankful for EVERYTHING and to thank you this week as we celebrate this national day off Thanksgiving!  Amen.

NEXT BUILDING MEETING WILL BE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8 AT 7PM!!
At our meeting last night we went through quite a few concerns and how to proceed to the next step.

Before the next meeting Elmer Wind is going to put together a few different master plans for us to review and discuss.  Once we get a master plan decided on by the majority of the people in attendance at the next meeting we will then bring it to a special voter's meeting and have the voters approve it.  After the master plan has been approved we will move on to developing a finance committee that will research and plan exactly how much of the master plan we can afford to build at the current time.  Once that is accomplished we will go to the voters assembly again to approve the building of what we can afford.  After that we will make plans to begin the building process.

I'm getting excited as I continue to see progress.  I see the wheels turning slowly and the rudder is moving this whole big ship!

St. John's is growing rapidly and is in need of upgrades to the current structure as well as more space!  That' is what we are working on accomplishing in the very near future!  Thanks be to God!

Every month throughout the school year, each church participating will take one food item and collect just that food item.  At the end of the month the food will be delivered to school.  The school officials along with volunteers will distribute the food to kids backpacks to take home.
