St. John's Group Email Two prayer requests

1. From my sister in Kansas city

Please pray for my church family… a member, who used to be a part time secretary at church, passed away from a brain hemorrhage yesterday- she was in a car accident last Thursday and was still experiencing dizziness. On Monday she lost consciousness at home and by the time they got her from a local hospital to a trauma center and did a CT scan she had lost most brain activity. After another CT scan yesterday, they decided to donate her organs and take her off life support. She has a 10, 11, 15, and 19 year old kids and a husband who had traveled a lot for his job. Her name is Kris Hulsey- husband Bob, kids Keenan, Maggie, Kelly, and Liam. It's a really sad time at Bethlehem both for the staff and the congregation.

2. Pray for Esther Bornemann's brother Bill.  He has just had a pacemaker put in and will need neck surgery after recovery.

(This will be the last daily email till July.)

DEVOTION: (This was forwarded to me by Tom Linke.  It is a great reminder of what grace really is.)

After living what I felt was a 'decent' life, my time on earth came to the end.

The first thing I remember is sitting on a bench in the waiting room of what I thought to be a court house.

The doors opened and I was instructed to come in and have a seat by the defense table.

As I looked around I saw the 'prosecutor.'

He was a villainous looking gent who snarled as he stared at me. He definitely was the most evil person I have ever seen.

I sat down and looked to my left and there sat My Attorney, kind and gentle looking man whose appearance seemed so familiar to me, I felt I knew Him.

The corner door flew open and there appeared the Judge in full flowing robes.

He commanded an awesome presence as He moved across the room I couldn't take my eyes off of Him.

As He took His seat behind the bench, He said, 'Let us begin.'

The prosecutor rose and said,

'My name is Satan and I am here to show you why this man belongs in hell.'

He proceeded to tell of lies that I told, things that I stole, and In the past when I cheated others. Satan told of other horrible Perversions that were once in my life and the more he spoke, the further down in my seat I sank.

I was so embarrassed that I couldn't look at anyone, even my own Attorney, as the Devil told of sins that even I had completely forgotten about.

As upset as I was at Satan for telling all these things about me, I was equally upset at My Attorney who sat there silently not offering any form of defense at all.

I know I had been guilty of those things, but I had done some good in my life - couldn't that at least equal out part of the harm I'd done?

Satan finished with a fury and said, 'This man belongs in hell, he is guilty of all that I have charged and there is not a person who can prove otherwise.'

When it was His turn, My Attorney first asked if He might approach the bench. The Judge allowed this over the strong objection of Satan, and beckoned Him to come forward.

As He got up and started walking, I was able to see Him in His full splendor and majesty.

I realized why He seemed so familiar; this was Jesus representing me, my Lord and my Savior.
He stopped at the bench and softly said to the Judge, 'Hi, Dad,' and then He turned to address the court.

'Satan was correct in saying that this man had sinned, I won't deny any of these allegations. And, yes, the wages of sin is death, and this man deserves to be punished.'

Jesus took a deep breath and turned to His Father with outstretched arms and proclaimed, 'However, I died on the cross so that this person might have eternal life and he has accepted Me as his
Savior, so he is Mine.'

My Lord continued with, 'His name is written in the Book of Life, and no one can snatch him from Me.

Satan still does not understand yet. This man is not to be given justice, but rather mercy.'

As Jesus sat down, He quietly paused, looked at His Father and said, 'There is nothing else that needs to be done.'

'I've done it all.'

The Judge lifted His mighty hand and slammed the gavel down. The following words bellowed from His lips..

'This man is free. The penalty for him has already been paid in full. 'Case dismissed.'

As my Lord led me away, I could hear Satan ranting and raving, 'I won't give up, I will win the next one.'

I asked Jesus as He gave me my instructions where to go next, 'Have you ever lost a case?'

Christ lovingly smiled and said, 'Everyone that has come to Me and asked Me to represent them has received the same verdict as you, ~Paid In Full~'

'Stop telling God how big your storm is.
Instead, tell the storm how big your God is.

CATECHESIS:
8th commandment: You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
QUESTION: What does this mean?
ANSWER:
We should fear and love God so that we do not tell lies about our neighbor, betray him, slander him, or hurt his reputation, but defend him, speak well of him, and explain everything in the kindest way.

DISCIPLESHIP-- WHAT IS IT?  (REVOLVE DISCIPLESHIP TRAINING JULY 17-19)
This is the question we will be asking ourselves in many and various ways in the coming weeks.

Too often we merely think of the Gospel and salvation as something that we will receive when we die and not something that guides and fills our life right here and right now.  Our salvation is for us to enjoy right now and to share with others right now.

We don't think of the church as something more than a place, when really it is a people!  The church doesn't exist without the relationships and love of the people in it?  What have you been thiking about the church lately?

When we think of mission, what comes to mind?  Who are missionaries?  Aren't you one?  If you are a Christian then you most certainly are, because you have been called to be one by the Holy Spirit.

What then is discipleship?  Isn't it simply living a true and real CHRISTIAN life?

On July 17-19 Pastor Andy Whaley from Plano, TX will be here to explore the issue of discipleship further, to encourage and challenge us to be better disicples and disciple makers, and to give us a plan of action to do so.  In the coming weeks I will be calling on many of you to be a part of this weekend.  Maybe you can beat me to the punch and sign up before I ask you.  Simply call me to sign up and be ready for a wonderful time of learning how God's love really is a part of St. John's.

A NOTE FROM PASTOR
As your pastor it is my job to care for your spiritual needs.  It is my job to make sure that your spiritual life is going in the right direction and that you are growing in your faith.  It is my job to help you in whatever way I can to grow in that spiritual life.  Unfortunately I can't read minds, nor can I be everywhere all the time, and so I am not always aware of times when you may need my help.  Also, I am human so I am not always the most in tune to what may be going on in your life.  I am often the last one to find out about things that are going on with you.  Please never assume that I know what is going on with you and your life.  Please also never assume that I am "too busy" or that your need is "too small".  If you need spiritual help please know that I am always there for you 24 hours a day.  I am just a phone call or email away.  revklaus@hotmail.com or 456-1173.

I am here for all of you!  I want to help you.  I want to give you the tools you need to grow spiritually.  I will meet with you anytime, anywhere to pray with you, to give you spiritual guidance, and to share the Gospel with you.
